Klangnetz

Klangnetz e.V. is an association of young composers living in Berlin. It was founded in 2003
with the aim of supporting young composers who work in Berlin and are not yet employed or
sponsored by an established institution. Klangnetz has built up a network of composers, musicians,
musicologists and public-relation-managers from Germany, Iceland, Switzerland, Israel, Spain,
Sweden, the Netherlands, Japan, China, the USA, Brazil, and Argentina as well as with other
artists like painters, writers, dancers and designers. A concert series was put forward in January
2004, which has been the frame to realise fifteen projects with more then 27 concerts in Berlin,
Hamburg, Kiel, Cottbus, Görlitz, Bern, Basel, Luzern, Aarau, Reykjavík, Gdansk, Warsaw, Istanbul,
and Helsinki. Since 2005 Klangnetz and adapter started their close co-operation with very successful
concerts introducing new ensemble pieces, composition for singers, and solo-pieces. Klangnetz
prepares every concert with a distinctive concept that attempts to broaden the traditional form of
classical concerts and experiment with unusual modes of presenting contemporary music among
other arts. In particular, a close aesthetic junction between artists, designers, dancers, writers,
musicians and composers is a main feature of the association’s identity. Klangnetz has given
concerts with video-artists who contributed videos to compositions for harp and percussion or with
one of the best-known German poets, Durs Grünbein, who red out poems which were followed by
seven ensemble-pieces which commented on them. In addition, Klangnetz has already invited
musicians and composers from Argentina, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic,
and Iceland to Berlin and other German cities to get their pieces performed by adapter or other
ensembles like Kwartludium, Curious Chamber Players or Konvergence and to enter a productive
discussion with young German composers and musicians.
In its interdisciplinary and international projects Klangnetz and adapter care for a as much precise as
passionate interpretation of the pieces which are treated in respect to their individual structure and
aesthetic quality. A main interest of the institution is to support profoundly a close, deeply motivated
and excellent network of young composers and musicians around the globe.

Since 2004 Klangnetz has been supported – amongst others – by the Karl-Hofer-Society, the
Institute for New Music Berlin, the International Society for New Music, the City of Lucerne, the
Kanton Basel-Landschaft, the Fondation Nestlé pour l’Art, the Artephilia-Foundation, the Foreign
Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe-Institute, the Senate for Science and
Research, the City of Reykjavík, the German-Icelandic Society, the Bank Glitnir, the GSUB,
